www.FiredWithoutCause.com – Cool Website…

Employment Comments Off

Thanks go out to Omar Ha-Redeye and Connie Crosbie for directing my attention to FiredWithoutCause, a website that offers online employment-related legal services for those who have been terminated.  The website was founded by Chilwin Cheng (lawyer with an MBA) and Jim Hamlin (software guru with an MBA) to give recently let go employees things to think about.  For example, it has a severance package calculator, video tutorials, a blog, and counter-offer letter templates for employees to send to their former employer.  It’s a very cool website to check out.  They have received considerable media attention since launching and Connie Crosbie has done a great job interviewing Chilwin on Slaw here.

Mentioned in Law Pro Magazine…

History of DL Comments Off

Thanks and congratulations go out to Garry Wise and Omar Ha-Redeye for the great feature in Law Pro Magazine’s article entitled “Social Media: What?“  Seems like an article like this was a long-time coming.  The article talks about the various social media tools out there (e.g. facebook, twitter, blogging, linkedin, etc.) in terms of uses, benefits, and limitations.  There’s even a swanky picture of Garry Wise in there.  At the top of page 7, I am referenced along with Omar Ha-Redeye because of Garry’s Blog and OMG! Law Talk:

His blog is another means of “getting the information out there” – in a variety of formats. He often includes video clips, for example, and has just added a video series called OMG! Law
Talk, which features “informal, but often emphatic conversations on legal issues, politics, technology and social media” between Wise and fellow law bloggers Michael Carabash and Omar Ha-Redeye.

Great article and every lawyer should definitely give it a read…

OMG Law Talk Episode 2

Lawyers & Technology Comments Off

Michael CarabashIt’s that time again!  Following up on the success of episode 1, Garry Wise, Omar Ha-Redeye and myself are pleased to launch OMG Law Talk Episode 2.  We got together in a studio and started talking about topics that interested us, such as: google juice, law firm public relations strategies, getting legal information online, blogging and the election of George Bush, responding to torture, etc.  It’s a kind of different approach to lawyers using videos and social media: it’s not shameless self promotion.  The video has been edited and put together courtesy of the super talented Garry Wise (notable Toronto employment and family law litigator, which Dynamic Lawyers also has a profile report on). Many thanks also go out to popular law student blogger Omar Ha-Redeye, who blogged about OMG! Law Talk – Episode 2 on Law is Cool, and his personal website.  Overall, I think you get a good mix of ideas and dynamics in this discussion (with more to come).  I hope you enjoy it!

OMG! Law Talk – Episode 1

Lawyers & Technology 1 Comment »

Michael CarabashSo a while back, Garry Wise, Omar Ha-Redeye and myself got together in studio and started talking about topics that interested us, such as: lawyers who blog, managing the public vs. the private online through social media, augmenting your personality online, rants and bones to pick (e.g. Yellow Pages and SEO companies), and search engine malpractice. Response to FREE eBook: Amazing!

Lawyers & Technology, Marketing & Promotion Comments Off

Michael CarabashWow!  That’s all I can say.  After 24 hours of releasing our FREE eBook entitled “4 Steps to Online Legal Marketing. For Lawyers. By Lawyers”, I can truly say that the response has been amazing!

Here’s the good stuff:

  • Traffic on the website reached its second highest level since launching last November.
  • The story has been re-tweeted more than 45 times and counting.
  • News of the FREE eBook was put on Slaw and LawisCool (courtesy of good friend, Omar Ha-Redeye) and on another good friend (Garry Wise)”s popular blog (FYI, Omar and Garry were both mentioned in an article about law firms and social media, which can be found here).
  • The story was recommended by Nancy Kinney on AdviceScene.

Thanks everyone for helping to spread the eBook!  We appreciate it here at Dynamic Lawyers!

Catching up…

History of DL Comments Off

Michael CarabashSo I’ve been gone for a week – vacationing in Florida with the family – and now it’s time for me to catch up.  For starters, the day before I left, I published a new video.  It’s an Ontario Reports ParodyI did.  It took me about 4 hours of filming and 8 hours of editing to get it down to 50 seconds.  I’m glad it’s received positive comments from the public and lawyers alike.  The video spread through the various social network websites (e.g. YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, etc.) and was even discussed by Omar Ha-Redeye and Library Boy.  Good stuff all around.

Next, I received a number of e-mails from different individuals and organizations who are interested in what we are doing (e.g. improving access to justice through technology and the Internet) and I will be evaluating and following up with these opportunities in due course.  Some of these opportunities came around by way of the Lawyers Weekly profile report about me which was published 2 weeks back.

Next, I finished and circulated a draft eBook about Online Marketing For Lawyers.  I spent a few days and put together everything I could think about in this introductory eBook.  It’s written in simple prose to help educate lawyers on how to market themselves on the Internet.  I’ll probably come out with a part 2 ina  couple of months. The feedback I received from the eBook so far is: this is an amazing resource.   I’m glad that I wrote it and I have none other to thank for pushing me to do it than Bob Berman of Berman Barristers (www.myontariodivorce.com).  At the moment, the eBook has been sent to our graphics designer, Parastou Gheidarpour, to turn it into something phenomenal. After writing the eBook, I started to follow my own advice and re-tweaked many of the website’s pages.

Apart from these things, I’m thinking about writing another report about the first 500 posts which have been made on Dynamic Lawyers.  I figure it might be interesting, for example, for the public and lawyers alike to know that roughly 25% of the posts on Dynamic Lawyers are related to family law issues.  This is the largest segment and it’s interesting to note that many people are turning to the Internet to find answers and hook up with a lawyer.

Finally, I’ve got a great new announcement to make – which is deserving of its own blog post…coming up next!

Garry Wise, Omar Ha-Redeye, and Michael Carabash teaming up…

History of DL Comments Off

Michael CarabashSo Garry Wise, Omar Ha-Redeye, and myself are teaming up to offer something different and (we hope) interesting.  We realized we had to do something together – the Google Juices were overflowing and our creative and innovative minds couldn’t be held back.  The following was taken from a recent post on Garry Wise’s blog:

I have learned quite a bit over two recent dinner discussions with Michael and Omar, who are both extremely insightful and knowledgeable about just about everything. They are among the leaders of a creative, new breed of tech-savvy legal thinkers who are guided by a genuine understanding of how emerging web-based technologies are changing the way lawyers and our clients can and will interact. Quite a few ideas came out of those two discussions, and Omar, Michael and I will have something very interesting in store for you in the very near future… (shameless teaser alert)

Profile Report on Omar Ha-Redeye

Access to Justice Comments Off

Michael CarabashDynamic Lawyers has just issued its latest profile report on 3rd law student and tech guru, Omar Ha-Redeye.  Omar has travelled the world, is well connected, and has lots of “Google Juice”.  He’s a great guy who I look forward to working closely with to help open up legal services to the masses – a la Richard Susskind.
