My column featured in Lawyers Weekly: The Future of Legal Services…

History of DL Comments Off

I guess the media is getting sick of reporting about me.  Over the past year and a half, I’ve been featured in over 40 media spaces (including newspapers, magazines, legal trade publications, radio, TV, etc.).  So when the Lawyers Weekly asked me to write my own column about the future of legal services, I said “Sure!”.  Now I could control the message and not get mis-quoted!  I could also interview those personalities I thought the media had overlooked – such as Nancy Kinney.  So here’s my first (of hopefully many) articles – this one happens to be in the Lawyers Weekly:

Lawyers Weekly article: The Future of Legal Services…

History of DL Comments Off

The Lawyers Weekly has asked me to write an article about the future of legal services….  This is my first time writing an article for them and I’m looking for people to talk to about this topic.  My preference is to speak with legal practitioners (or others) who are actually doing something now that will ultimately set standards for how legal services are offered and delivered in the future.  I’ve got my own views, but I’d like to include some discussion about what’s happening on the ground and what those people think is in store for the future of legal services.  Remember: the future is what we make it.   If you or someone you know is doing something cool and innovative, let me know.

Lawyers Weekly article featuring Michael Carabash and Legal Forms + Video Guides…

History of DL 1 Comment »

A few weeks ago, I was featured in a Lawyers Weekly article about sharing office space.   The article featured my good friend, Joel Kadish, and I (among others) discussing the pros and cons of sharing office space.   The article also mentioned Dynamic Lawyers‘ new Legal Forms + Video Guides packages.  Here’s the full article in case you’re interested in reading it:

Michael Carabash and Legal Forms + Video Guides mentioned in Lawyers Weekly…

History of DL Comments Off

Yours truly was featured in the Lawyers Weekly this past week in an article about lawyers sharing office space.  Lorraine Mallinder spoke to me and another colleague of mine, Toronto Real Estate Lawyer Joel Kadish, about the advantages and disadvantages of sharing office space with other lawyers, as well as our experiences.  Importantly, Lorraine mentioned our soon-to-be-launched Legal Forms + Video Guides project:

Sharing space with a like-minded colleague can get the creative juices going. Carabash and his co-occupant are currently putting together video guides offering legal insights and tips to lay people on everything from small claims forms to power of attorney applications.

Here’s the link to the full article (soon to be a .pdf on Dynamic Lawyers).

Flat Fee Billing – Coming to a law firm near you?

Access to Justice Comments Off

Michael CarabashThe Lawyers Weekly has published an interesting piece this month about flat-fee billing by family law lawyer and lecturer, Lonny Balbi.  I’ve previously blogged extensively about the problems with the billable hour and you can even see our report about legal fees in Toronto.  This article picks up on those problems and identifies 4 principles that can be gleamed from looking at pricing models in other industries:

  1. The customer has a fixed price up front.
  2. A service is worth more when it is needed than when it is delivered.
  3. Focus on the customer, not the cost to produce.
  4. Look at the value to the customer.

Be sure to go to Lawyers Weekly and read the whole article – very interesting.
